Tips For Making Your Home More Appealing To Buyers: Decorating on a budget

by hjiadmin

Home sellers who want to make a quick sale should take the time to make their house more appealing to buyers. One of the best ways to make a house more appealing to buyers, aside from a low selling price of course, is to decorate it.

Here are some decorating tips to help you increase the house’s appeal and hopefully get the sale price you want.

Decorating on a budget

Who said decorating the house has to be expensive? There are several ways to decorate a home without spending a bundle, or even without spending at all. Here are some popular ways to decorate on a budget.

Clear the house

If the house is clean and de-cluttered, potential buyers will get to see just how beautiful the property really is; plain, clean, and without the need for costly extras to make it look good. Tuck away personal belongings such as family photos, little John’s gold medal, and those little post-it notes on the kitchen counter. Taking knickknacks away allows buyers to see the house as they see fit. Closets and drawers have to be cleaned, too. Buyers will look at the house’s storage spaces, and when they find these spaces cluttered and full of unnecessary and unkempt items, they will begin to think that there’s a need for more storage space, or think that it’s dirty. They won’t like that.

Taking the time to do these things can really pay off.

Old furniture, as well as those that might be new but aren’t used that often, can be disposed of or transferred somewhere else so that the house will look spacious and neat. Buyers will want to imagine their own furniture and belongings in their new home and our old furniture can hinder them from doing that.

Decorating on purpose

Decorations will cost varying amounts of money.  Here are a few ways to decorate the house.

Prep that entrance

Buyers will not want to enter a home that has an uninviting entrance area. If it’s hard to get buyers to enter the house put up for sale, it will be harder to get them to buy the property being sold. Clean the front yard and plant some bright-colored and fresh-looking flowers. Give the front door a fresh coat of paint to make it look better. Also, place a new door mat beneath the front door to make buyers feel like they’re entering their own home.

Color it well

A fresh coat of paint, in the right color, will always make the house look and feel more beautiful. This should be done especially if the house walls are chipped, dirty or stained. Go for neutral colors when choosing paint. Colors such as gray or beige will appeal to many and help them feel right at home. Avoid adventurous colors as they won’t appeal to every single buyer that will look at your property. Don’t worry about it being dull. Add some colorful accents like throw pillows or lively paintings to make it look more appealing.

Adapt to the surroundings

Decorate your home depending on the surroundings around you. For example, if the property is situated in an urban area, a transitional and modern look will do fine. If the home is in the countryside, on the other hand, a laid-back country style will do the trick.

Decorating by repairing

Repairs can, and will, add to the beauty and appeal of the property being sold.

Up the brightness

The more light a house has, the better. Well-lit homes will always look better than dark or dim-lit ones, and will for sure attract more buyers. Replace broken or old bulbs with newer ones. Lighting fixtures can also do more than just brighten up the home. Choosing light fixtures that are tailored for specific areas of the house will also change the mood and make it more appealing to buyers. Outdated light fixtures can also be updated to make them look good. Scrub or clean rusty lamps and maybe give them a fresh coat of spray paint. This is an affordable way to dress things up. Clean old chandeliers and replace any burnet-out bulbs with new ones.

Don’t leave anything broken

When planning to sell your home, make sure to repair as much damage as you can. Loose hinges on cabinet doors might seem like a minor issue, but to buyers they won’t be. Buyers will be quick to spot broken and damaged areas, so don’t assume that they won’t notice them. Replace those loose hinges. Repair that leaky faucet. Don’t forget to replace that cracked window glass and repair the broken railings on the stairs.
